Failing to find a healthy work-life balance can have disastrous consequences on your physical and mental wellbeing.
Working more than 55 hours a week has been linked to anxiety and depression.
But don’t worry!
You can take a few simple yet effective steps to help minimize your risk.
Continue reading to learn four practical ways to improve work-life balance.
-
Set Boundaries and Make Time for You
Simple boundaries can make all the difference to set yourself up for success in your professional and personal life. Set clearly defined work hours and communicate them to colleagues and clients. An automated out-of-office email message is a great way to stop being attached to your email inbox.
Another way to make sure you make time for yourself is to take ALL your vacation days. Use this time to invest in meaningful relationships outside of work. And invest in yourself by practicing self-care.
-
Find the Right Employer
According to a study of employees, the biggest obstacle to a good work-life balance is the boss. A whopping 60% of respondents said that a bad boss has the most negative impact on their work-life balance.
Most of us spend half of our time at work, if not more. Therefore, it’s crucial to find an employer that supports your growth as a human being as well as an employee.
To balance work and life in a healthy way, it’s a good idea to try and find a job you enjoy. If your job makes you miserable, it will be impossible to achieve that underlying sense of fulfillment we all crave.

Make Your Health Your Number #1 Priority
Focus your attention on achieving physical and emotional health. Eating healthy and exercising will not only boost your mood but increase your energy. When we have abundant energy, we can put extra hours in and still feel balanced because we have energy left over for other things.
-
Ask for Help
There’s no shame in reaching out for help, be it to an employer if your workload is too full.
We can take on too much thinking we can do it all, but once you get too far behind, it can feel as though you’re drowning and that spills over into your personal life.
When you feel like this is happening, ask for help.
However, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by life, in general, and your home is paying the price, we at Second Set of Hands have a team of professional organizers to help with the stress of disorganization and clutter.

Learn To Say No
When you’re saying YES, what are you saying No to? Usually, it’s the exact thing that would allow you a better work-life balance. For example, when we are saying yes to things we don’t really want to do, we’re usually taking time away from loved ones.
Learning to say NO, can greatly increase balance in your life.
Don’t Wait to Improve Work-life Balance
There is no perfect work-life balance. Not only will your priorities change over time, but there will always be ebbs and flows in your work and your life outside of work. Remember these tips and being aware of how and where you spend your time- will allow you to make adjustments before it starts to affect you mentally and physically.
